Heavy Diesel Mechanic

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team in New Zealand. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy diesel machinery used in mining or agricultural operations. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose faults and perform repairs on heavy diesel machinery and equipment
Service and maintain mining equipment including loaders, dump trucks, excavators, and drilling machinery – Mining
OR Maintain and repair agricultural machinery including tractors, harvesters, balers, and sprayers – Agriculture
Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled servicing
Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems
Perform engine overhauls, transmission repairs, and brake system maintenance
Complete job cards, service reports, and maintenance documentation accurately
Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with manufacturer specifications
Adhere to New Zealand health and safety regulations and site safety standards
Participate in breakdown call-outs and field service work when required
Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment
Minimum Requirements
Trade qualification in Heavy Diesel Mechanics or equivalent
Minimum 3 to 5 years experience working on mining and/or agricultural equipment
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
Experience working on brands such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Hitachi Construction Machinery or similar
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
Valid drivers licence
Welding and fabrication experience advantageous
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
