South Africa: Mechanical Fitter /Welder

Minimum Requirements Trade Test Certificate: Mechanical Fitter (Red Seal or equivalent). Trade Test in Welding (Is also an advantage) Experience: Minimum 35 years experience in a plastics manufacturing environment , ideally within extrusion and injection moulding operations. Technical Skills: Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills. Proficient in welding and basic fabrication. Familiar with hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Basic electrical knowledge (advantageous) Qualifications: N3N6 Mechanical Engineering (advantageous). Must be physically fit and safety-conscious. Ability to work shifts and attend to call-outs if required. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Key Responsibilities Perform routine, scheduled, and breakdown maintenance on extrusion and injection moulding machines. Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical faults and implement corrective actions efficiently. Carry out mechanical installations, alignments, and component replacements (e.g., bearings, pumps, motors, gearboxes). Conduct minor fabrication and welding tasks (TIG/MIG/Arc) for machine repair and frame support work. Maintain and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Ensure all work complies with safety standards and maintenance procedures. Keep detailed maintenance logs and report recurring machine issues. Assist in continuous improvement projects to enhance machine reliability and reduce downtime. Collaborate with production supervisors and technicians to ensure minimal disruption during maintenance.
