Job Summary

Job Summary: The Project Planner is responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining detailed project schedules for construction projects that involve structural, mechanical, piping, and platework activities. This role involves developing comprehensive plans, coordinating with project teams to ensure timely execution, and monitoring progress to identify and resolve scheduling issues. The Project Planner will utilize advanced project management tools and techniques to optimize project timelines and support successful project delivery. Tasks will include but are not limited to: Key Responsibilities: Schedule Development and Management: Schedule Creation: Develop detailed project schedules for all construction phases, including structural, mechanical, piping, and platework tasks. Ensure schedules are realistic, achievable, and aligned with project objectives. Activity Sequencing: Identify and sequence all project activities, defining dependencies and critical paths. Update and adjust schedules based on project changes and developments. Resource Planning: Collaborate with project managers and resource teams to integrate resource allocation into project schedules. Ensure resources are effectively utilized and available as needed. Monitoring and Reporting: Progress Tracking: Continuously monitor project progress against the schedule, identifying variances and potential delays. Provide regular updates and forecasts to project managers and stakeholders. Reporting: Prepare and present detailed progress reports, including schedule performance, deviations, and impacts. Offer recommendations for addressing delays and optimizing timelines. Delay Analysis: Conduct analysis of schedule delays and disruptions. Develop and implement corrective actions to mitigate delays and keep the project on track. Coordination and Communication: Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with project teams, including engineers, contractors, and suppliers, to ensure effective communication and coordination of scheduling activities. Facilitate meetings to discuss scheduling updates and issues. Client Interaction: Communicate with clients regarding schedule changes, milestones, and potential impacts. Ensure that client expectations are managed and that schedule modifications are communicated clearly. Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all scheduling activities, including updates, changes, and communications. Ensure documentation is readily accessible for review and audits. Process Improvement: Best Practices: Develop and implement best practices for project scheduling and planning. Contribute to the creation of standardized processes and procedures to enhance scheduling efficiency. Tool Utilization: Stay updated on the latest project management tools and methodologies. Recommend and implement new tools or techniques to improve scheduling practices. Risk Management: Risk Identification: Identify potential scheduling risks and constraints that could affect project timelines. Develop risk management strategies and contingency plans to address these risks. Mitigation Strategies: Propose and implement strategies to mitigate scheduling risks and resolve scheduling conflicts. Work with project teams to address and manage challenges effectively. Qualifications and Experience: Grade 12 or equivalent. Professional certifications in project management or planning are advantageous. 5-10 years of experience in project planning and scheduling within the construction industry, specifically in structural, mechanical, piping, and platework projects. Proven track record of managing complex project schedules. Skills: Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and scheduling tools. Strong understanding of project planning principles and techniques. Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Capability to assess and manage complex scheduling issues and develop effective solutions. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with project teams, clients, and stakeholders. Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment. Additional Information: This role requires travel to various project sites. Accommodation and transportation arrangements will be provided as necessary. Work Environment: Hours: Standard business hours. Potential overtime may be required based on project demands and logistics needs. Key Performance Input and Key Performance Area: An annual performance review will be conducted with your line manager to assess overall output and effectiveness in your role. This review will provide an opportunity to measure your achievements against set goals, identify any areas of concern, and discuss potential improvements. Additionally, it will serve as a platform to evaluate any training needs or professional development opportunities that could enhance your performance and contribute to your growth within the company.
