About the Role
The Nelson Mandela University is seeking a Senior Academic Developer to collaborate with academic staff in planning, designing, and facilitating learning and teaching development activities that positively impact student learning. This role will play a critical part in shaping the university’s higher education learning and teaching strategy.
Key Responsibilities
• Coordinate and participate in processes of rendering comprehensive higher education learning and teaching strategies for all academic staff at Nelson Mandela University.
• Closely monitor, determine, and support needs of academic staff pertaining to learning, teaching, and assessment matters on the George campus.
• Implement Academic Induction Programme for newly appointed academics on the George campus in collaboration with Beginning Your Journey (BYJ) @ Mandela University coordinator.
• Participate in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to best practices of learning, teaching, and assessment.
• Contribute to scholarship of teaching and learning through SoTL research.
• Holistically support collaborative curriculum development at institutional level.
• Engage with additional academic enhancement initiatives as assigned by the Director of Teaching Development.
Requirements
- Comprehensive understanding of principles and best practices related to teaching and learning development.
- Ability to initiate and coordinate professional development programmes for staff at different levels.
- Proven research competency and interest in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
- Experience of curriculum design and development in Higher Education.
- Ability to work within tight timeframes and productively in the absence of close supervision.
- Excellent networking, collaborative, and teamwork abilities.
- Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
- High-level problem-solving and conflict management abilities.
