Job Description

People (HR) Intern Location: Game Lodge South Africa Department: People / Human Resources Reports to: People Manager / Lodge Manager Job Purpose To support the People (HR) department in delivering efficient and professional human resource administration and employee support services within the lodge. The intern will gain practical experience in hospitality HR operations, staff engagement, recruitment administration, and compliance with South African labour legislation. Key Responsibilities Recruitment & Onboarding Assist with drafting job adverts and posting vacancies. Screen CVs and schedule interviews. Prepare onboarding documentation. Coordinate induction programs for new employees. Ensure employee files are accurate and compliant. HR Administration Maintain personnel records and HR databases. Assist with employment contracts and related documentation. Capture and update leave records. Support payroll preparation by submitting required documentation. Ensure POPIA compliance when handling employee information. Employee Relations Assist with employee queries. Support disciplinary and grievance documentation. Participate in staff engagement initiatives. Assist with organizing training and development programs. Compliance & Reporting Ensure compliance with: Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) Labour Relations Act (LRA) Employment Equity Act (EEA) Assist with Employment Equity reporting. Support Skills Development and WSP/ATR submissions where applicable. General Lodge Support Support lodge culture and values initiatives. Assist with staff welfare coordination (uniforms, accommodation queries, etc.). Provide administrative support to management when required. Minimum Requirements Diploma or Degree in: Human Resource Management Industrial Psychology Business Administration South African citizen (if required for SETA internship) Valid drivers license (advantageous) Willingness to work in a remote lodge environment Skills & Competencies Strong administrative and organisational skills High level of confidentiality Good communication skills (English essential; additional local languages advantageous) Computer literate (MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook) Understanding of South African labour legislation (basic knowledge) Professional and approachable demeanour Personal Attributes Passion for hospitality and people development Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced lodge environment Culturally sensitive and team-oriented Willing to live on-site (if required) Learning Outcomes The intern will gain exposure to: Full HR cycle in hospitality Recruitment and onboarding processes Employee relations procedures Labour law compliance in South Africa Payroll administration basics Employment Equity and Skills Development processes
