Stutterheim: Harvesting Supervisor

Job Responsibilities: Supervise production staff under your supervision and ensure that they adhere to production procedures and that production targets are achieved. Record daily production performance schedule and report to the relevant people. Supervise the use of company property and equipment under your control. Ensure that all equipment have logbooks and checklists and that these are completed as per the company standard. Ensure the timely maintenance of company equipment under your control. Ensure the correct log lengths optimisation is achieved. Ensure that the correct colour code and numbering system is used. Ensure correct processing is done for each log. Assist in production procedures when required, i.e.: log marking, operating machines, etc. Accurate completion of staff time sheets on a weekly basis. Apply corrective disciplinary procedures, fairly and in a progressive manner Monitor and report buffer stock every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning before 9am. Monitor the age of timber stacks and report if timber is 3 weeks or older. Ensure that all safety standards and procedures are adhered to by the team under your supervision. Operate machinery when required. Ensure back-up operators are trained and ready at all times. Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting and training employees, developing personal growth opportunities. Ensure operators and safety personnel are certified at all times. Job Requirements: Must be in possession of a Matric Certificate/Grade 12 or equivalent. At least 2 years experience in a supervisory role within a forestry environment. A relevant tertiary qualification would be an advantage. Must be able to speak and communicate effectively in Xhosa. Should be able to promote effective team spirit by good leadership. Must be organized and systematic in the performance of duties. Must use initiative and be able to find novel ways to deal with challenges. Should have good interpersonal and communications skills. Must be willing to work additional hours as and when required.
