About the Role
The Head Guide position is a critical leadership role that oversees all Field Guide functions, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional guest experiences. As the registered responsible person for company firearms, you will assume full responsibility for obtaining and maintaining valid departmental licenses, as well as ensuring efficient and safe weapon handling and proficiency of the entire department.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee, train, and monitor all Field Guide functions according to standards
- Ensure efficient allocation for all game drives, back-up drives, and stand-by duties
- Deliver informative lectures on relevant ecological topics and conduct guided game drives and interpretive bush walks
- Chair and record departmental meetings and attend other meetings as required
- Assist in managing lodge social media platforms and ensure consistent delivery of relevant information
- Implement training and mentorship plans to develop team members and identify potential mentors within the department
- Drive and monitor the effective implementation and execution of Performance Management and Succession Planning processes
- Conduct regular, meaningful performance appraisals and follow up on agreed action and developmental plans
Requirements
- Minimum FGASA Level 2 and Trails Guide (Essential)
- ARH and Rifle Proficiency
- First Aid Level 2
- Drivers License and Pr-DP
- Previous experience as Assistant Head Guide or Head Guide
