Job Description
We are recruiting an experienced Hotel Financial Controller with deep knowledge of Opera PMS, strong hospitality finance expertise, and the ability to turn numbers into meaningful insights that strengthen operational performance and elevate guest experiences.
You will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, transparency and stability across the hotel, working closely with the Finance Manager and all operational departments.
This role requires someone who understands how hotel systems connect, how departments interact, and how financial insights support service excellence.
Only candidates with hotel industry experience will be considered. Opera PMS experience is critical and non-negotiable.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
– Oversee AR and AP functions
– Ensure timely payments, efficient collections and accurate reconciliations
Cash Book Management
– Supervise daily cash book entries
– Ensure all transactions are captured and reconciled against bank statements
Financial Records & Transactional Accuracy
– Record, classify and reconcile financial transactions in alignment with IFRS for SMEs
– Maintain accurate ledgers and audit-ready documentation
Financial Control and Balance Sheet Integrity
– Maintain accuracy of all asset and liability accounts
– Ensure full balance sheet reconciliation and integrity
Management Accounts
– Prepare and review monthly management accounts
– Verify supporting schedules and variance explanations
Cost Management & Operational Support
– Support operational teams with cost reviews
– Identify opportunities for savings and efficiency improvements
Compliance and Risk Management
– Ensure compliance with financial legislation and internal controls
– Strengthen risk management procedures across the finance function
Financial Systems Optimisation
– Enhance systems and tools used for financial reporting and control
– Support Opera PMS and related hotel system improvements
Statutory Returns
– Prepare and submit VAT, tax and statutory returns accurately and within deadlines
Budgeting and Forecasting
– Assist with financial planning, budgets, forecasts and cash flow analysis
Stakeholder Collaboration
– Liaise with auditors, hotel management, suppliers and external financial partners
– Support seamless year-end processes and audit compliance
Team Leadership
– Guide and mentor accounting staff
– Promote continuous development, high standards and accuracy
Qualifications and Experience
– Matric (Grade 12)
– Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting (completed qualification highly advantageous)
– Minimum three years of financial experience in a four or five star hotel (essential)
– Opera PMS working experience – critical and non-negotiable
– Strong MS Excel proficiency and advanced computer literacy
– Excellent communication, analytical ability and attention to detail
– Ability to work accurately, meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality
