About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Tax Compliance Officer to join our team at Communicate Finance. As a key member of our taxation department, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely submission of tax returns for individuals, companies, and trusts. Your expertise in South African tax legislation and experience managing client portfolios will be invaluable to us.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of tax returns
- Ensure all tax filings are accurate and submitted within SARS deadlines
- Review tax calculations and supporting schedules prepared by the team
- Monitor SARS eFiling and tax system dashboards for submissions and correspondence
- Manage SARS queries, verifications, and audits, including supporting documentation
- Supervise two Tax Compliance Officers, allocating work and managing turnaround times
- Conduct regular check-ins and planning sessions with the team
- Review work prior to submission to ensure quality and compliance standards are met
- Maintain tax compliance trackers, billing records, and client tax profiles
- Ensure all tasks are recorded in practice management systems and aligned with KPIs
- Drive process improvements and support automation of recurring compliance tasks
- Prepare monthly compliance reports and support year-end and filing season activities
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a Tax Compliance role within a professional services firm
- Strong working knowledge of South African tax legislation
- Experience managing a client portfolio
- Supervisory or review experience advantageous
- Proficiency in SARS eFiling, GreatSoft Tax, Xero Tax, Excel, and Microsoft 365
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Afrikaans
- Ability to coach, mentor, and lead junior team members
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Taxation, Accounting, or Finance OR equivalent
