Job Summary
- Grade 12/ National Certificate NQF Level 4
- Qualified Trade Welder Certificate
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment
Responsibilities
- Welding utilising the SMAW, GMAW, TIG and Orbital TIG welding processes
- Read drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Cut and prepare materials according to engineering approved drawings
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded & align components using callipers, rulers, etc., and clamp pieces
- Gas weld copper pipes with purging lines, copper to copper and silver solder welding
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
- Inspect welded material to ensure no visible defects are detected
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
- Ensure all ferrous and non-ferrous materials are identified, marked, and stored correctly
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
