My client in Pinetown is seeking a highly motivated and experienced SMT Department Supervisor to lead our Surface Mount Technology (SMT) operations within a dynamic electronics manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will oversee production schedules, maintain quality standards, optimize equipment performance, and guide a skilled team to achieve on-time, in-full delivery targets. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on operational efficiency and product quality while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
  
Education:

• Diploma or degree in Electronics, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred
• 3–5 years of supervisory experience in an SMT or electronics manufacturing environment
• In-depth knowledge of SMT processes, including programming, AOI, and reflow soldering
• Familiarity with IPC standards and quality management systems
• Strong technical understanding of SMT equipment and processes
• Leadership and team management capabilities
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and production planning tools

Job Experience & Skills Required:

• Plan, organize, and manage SMT operations to ensure production schedules are met efficiently
• Assign responsibilities and oversee workflow for SMT Operators, Inspectors, AOI Technicians, and Material Handlers
• Approve first-off builds and conduct quality checks to ensure compliance with standards and specifications
• Manage non-conformance reports, participate in root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
• Supervise SMT machine setup, programming, optimization, solder paste handling, and stencil usage
• Collaborate with Process Engineers to resolve technical issues and implement process improvements
• Ensure preventive maintenance, repairs, and calibration of SMT equipment are conducted timely
• Lead and develop the SMT team through performance reviews, training programs, and ongoing feedback
• Host daily production meetings, maintain visual management boards, and prepare efficiency and variance reports
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and housekeeping regulations
• Support customer and internal audits, acting as the primary point of contact for SMT production inquiries
