Johannesburg: Actuary – Reserving & Short-Term Insurance

A well-established and trusted short-term insurer in South Africa is looking for an Actuary to join their team, focusing on Reserving and broader short-term insurance analytics . This role offers exposure to a diverse range of products. The company offers a flexible hybrid working model , providing the best of both collaboration and autonomy. Key Responsibilities: Perform regular reserving calculations across various lines of business. Analyse complex datasets to extract meaningful insights that support reserving and profitability decisions. Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI. Collaborate with underwriting, finance, and product teams to support business strategy and performance monitoring. Contribute to ongoing model refinement and process improvement initiatives. Job Experience and Skills Required: A Bachelors degree in Actuarial Science or a related quantitative field. 6 actuarial exams completed, with a consistent track record of progress toward qualification (e.g., ASSA, IFoA). Strong experience in short-term (non-life) insurance, ideally with exposure to reserving. Proficiency in data tools such as Power BI and Excel. Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail. Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with both technical and business teams.
