Job Description

As a Construction Buyer, youll be responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement process for construction materials, subcontractors, and services. This role suits someone organised, detail-focused, and confident in negotiating with suppliers. Youll ensure that purchases are cost-effective, delivered on time, and meet required quality standards while collaborating with project managers, site teams, and quantity surveyors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain procurement schedules aligned with project timelines.

  • Process purchase requisitions efficiently and anticipate material requirements to prevent project delays.

  • Source, evaluate, and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and competitive pricing.

  • Negotiate prices, discounts, and favourable payment terms, while identifying cost-saving opportunities.

  • Ensure all procured goods and services meet specifications, contractual obligations, and compliance requirements.

  • Prepare, review, and manage supplier contracts to mitigate risks and maintain accurate documentation.

  • Monitor supplier performance, market trends, and procurement spend to support informed decision-making.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to forecast demand, plan procurement activities, and resolve challenges.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12; certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management preferred.

  • 35 years experience in procurement, ideally within construction, engineering, or manufacturing.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and procurement-related software.

  • Knowledge of contract management, compliance, and market trends.
