Job Title: Safety Officer
Report to: Operations
Seniority Level: Mid-Career (3 – 5 yrs exp)
Region: North-West
Type: Contractor
Job Purpose
To ensure compliance with all occupational health and safety legislation, company policies, and site-specific safety requirements, creating and maintaining a safe working environment for all employees and contractors.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid SACPCMP registration (Compulsory)
- Relevant Safety / OHS qualification (e.g. SAMTRAC or equivalent)
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as a Safety Officer
- Sound knowledge of OHS Act, Mine Health & Safety Act, and related regulations
- Strong reporting, inspection, and incident investigation skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company standards
- Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Compile and maintain safety files and reports
- Facilitate safety inductions, toolbox talks, and training sessions
- Investigate incidents and near misses and recommend corrective actions
- Liaise with management, contractors, and regulatory bodies
