About the Role
Midvaal Recruitment is seeking an experienced, well-networked Scrap Purchaser to take ownership of our sourcing strategy for high-quality scrap materials. This is a highly specialized and niche position requiring strong industry relationships, an understanding of regional scrap markets, and the ability to secure competitive pricing aligned to production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Source quality scrap metal grades aligned with production specifications.
- Negotiate best possible pricing and secure long-term supply agreements.
- Maintain, expand and manage a strong vendor base of scrap suppliers.
- Ensure continuous availability of scrap as per production forecasts.
- Conduct supplier vetting, yard visits, material inspections, and quality reviews.
- Monitor market trends, pricing, commodity fluctuations and competitor activities.
- Track volumes, contracts, deliveries and supplier performance.
- Work closely with Production, Logistics and Quality teams to ensure alignment.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental and legal regulations.
Requirements
- Minimum 58 years experience in scrap purchasing / recycling / metal trading.
- Strong industry network with scrap dealers, collectors and suppliers.
- Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap grades, specifications and pricing.
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Valid drivers license and willingness to travel.
- High integrity, commercial acumen, and the ability to work independently.
