About the Role
FROGG Recruitment is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our investment client in Cape Town City Centre. The ideal candidate will provide in-house legal support to the business, focusing on commercial contracting, day-to-day legal advisory, and managing legal risk in support of business operations and growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements (customer/supplier, procurement, NDAs, SLAs, SaaS/IT where relevant)
• Maintain and improve contract templates, playbooks, and contracting processes
• Ensure contracts align with internal approvals, risk appetite, and delegated authority frameworks
• Provide pragmatic legal advice to business stakeholders on operational matters
• Support corporate matters (resolutions, basic Companies Act queries) as required
• Assist with marketing, product, and customer communications from a legal risk perspective
• Support compliance with relevant legislation (e.g., CPA, POPIA, ECTA, PAIA—depending on the business)
• Identify legal risks and recommend mitigations, working closely with Risk/Compliance where applicable
• Manage lower-value disputes and claims; oversee external attorneys for complex litigation
• Assist with debt recovery strategy and dispute resolution processes
• Support new initiatives (new products, partnerships, rollouts) including legal input and documentation
• Work with Finance, Procurement, Sales, HR, and Operations to close legal items efficiently
Requirements
• LLB;
• Admitted attorney;
• 5 years relevant experience (commercial law focus) with prior in-house experience;
• Strong contract drafting/negotiation skills and ability to advise business stakeholders;
• Experience in the relevant sector (tech, fintech, retail, logistics, property, etc.);
• Exposure to data privacy and consumer law.
