Job Description

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 

  • Proven experience managing a mixed farm (livestock and vegetable crops)
  • Strong knowledge of cattle management and vegetable production
  • Experience with irrigation systems
  • Mechanical aptitude for vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Leadership and staff management experience
  • Valid Driver’s license. Code 10 or 14 advantageous.
  • Computer literacy (basic record-keeping and reporting)
  • Ability to speak Zulu advantageous.
  • Contactable References.

  • Physically fit and willing to be actively involved in daily operations

 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
 
 
Livestock Management

  • Oversee cattle health, breeding, feeding, and general welfare
  • Implement vaccination and animal health programs in consultation with veterinarians
  • Monitor grazing management and pasture utilization
  • Maintain accurate livestock records

 
Crop Production Management

  • Plan and manage planting, fertilization, and harvesting of:
    • Broccoli and cauliflower
    • Spinach
    • Other crops as required
  • Monitor crop health and implement pest and disease control programs
  • Ensure optimal yield and quality standards
  • Coordinate harvesting schedules and labour requirements
  • Make sure labour is used effectively and efficiently
  • Monitor and implement labour targets.
  • Monitor harvesting and be responsible for logistics.

 
Irrigation Management

  • Oversee irrigation scheduling and water usage
  • Maintain and repair irrigation systems (pumps, pipes, sprinklers, drip systems)
  • Monitor dam levels and water efficiency
  • Implement water conservation practices

 
Fleet & Equipment Maintenance

  • Manage maintenance schedules for farm vehicles and implements
  • Oversee servicing and repairs
  • Ensure machinery is operated safely and efficiently
  • Maintain maintenance records
  • Do Minor repairs as needed.

 
Staff Management

  • Supervise and coordinate farm workers
  • Plan daily and seasonal work schedules
  • Train staff on safe operating procedures and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
