About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Underground Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a 12-month contract basis. As an experienced mechanical engineer with underground mining experience, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and sustainable operation of our underground facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure all underground mechanical installations, equipment, and maintenance activities comply with MHSA and site standards.
Provide mechanical engineering support to achieve safe and sustainable production targets.
Manage and optimise planned maintenance systems to improve equipment availability and reliability.
Investigate mechanical failures, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
Conduct regular underground inspections to identify risks, defects, and non-compliance.
Review and approve mechanical designs, standards, and technical documentation.
Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and life-of-asset strategies.
Manage contractor performance and ensure work is executed safely and to specification.
Compile engineering reports, risk assessments, and performance data for management review.

Requirements

BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of 5 years underground mining experience
Proven experience with underground mobile and fixed mechanical equipment
Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and relevant regulations
Experience in maintenance management, equipment reliability, and breakdown analysis
Strong understanding of risk management and safe work practices
Computer literacy (MS Office and maintenance management systems)

Medically fit for underground work
