About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Underground Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a 12-month contract basis. As an experienced mechanical engineer with underground mining experience, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and sustainable operation of our underground facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all underground mechanical installations, equipment, and maintenance activities comply with MHSA and site standards.
- Provide mechanical engineering support to achieve safe and sustainable production targets.
- Manage and optimise planned maintenance systems to improve equipment availability and reliability.
- Investigate mechanical failures, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct regular underground inspections to identify risks, defects, and non-compliance.
- Review and approve mechanical designs, standards, and technical documentation.
- Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and life-of-asset strategies.
- Manage contractor performance and ensure work is executed safely and to specification.
- Compile engineering reports, risk assessments, and performance data for management review.
Requirements
- BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years underground mining experience
- Proven experience with underground mobile and fixed mechanical equipment
- Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and relevant regulations
- Experience in maintenance management, equipment reliability, and breakdown analysis
- Strong understanding of risk management and safe work practices
- Computer literacy (MS Office and maintenance management systems)
