About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nursery Assistant Manager to join our team at Farm Manager SA. As a key member of our nursery staff, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the nursery, managing entry-level staff, and ensuring the smooth running of our plant growth cycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Organizing, planning, and running of the day-to-day work for the staff according to the monthly requirements of the nursery.
- Setting up and following up on the staff with their daily duties.
- Daily checks and observations that need to be made to influence the planning of the monthly requirements of the nursery.
- Recording, updating, and analyzing various records and data collected to guide and inform on the numbers and state of plant progress within the growth cycle of Avo trees.
- Problem-solving according to short-term and long-term needs of Avo plants and the nursery, including solving staffing issues and biological issues such as plant health and temperature control.
- Contacting and communicating with customers in regard to orders and enquiries, including finding new customers, following up with existing customers, and finalizing the collection and sale of plants to customers.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in BSc / Agriculture, horticulture, biology, botany, etc. (advantageous)
- Computer literate (including Excel, Word, and email)
- Agricultural/nursery experience (advantageous)
- Experience managing entry-level staff and supervising basic workforce teams
- Driver’s license
