Job Summary
The Fixed Asset Accountant will be responsible for process development and balance sheet reconciliations as relates the fixed asset records and systems. This employee will manage the day-to-day operational tasks of this area of responsibility, while aligning with the broader processes overseen by the Group Accountant. This is to ensure that as a business, The Royal Portfolio is able to live up to our purpose, which is “to give our guests a complete experience and a perfect stay” . MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform reconciliations between various systems, ensuring all recons are done daily / weekly and investigate and resolve any issues identified. Assist with investigations into anomalies on asset accounts. Record Keeping – Maintain accurate and up-to-date fixed asset records in the accounting system, ensuring all transactions are properly documented. Verify discrepancies on reconciliations and resolve reconciling items. Track and manage the acquisition, depreciation, and disposal of fixed assets in accordance with company policies and accounting standards. Assist with vendor master data maintenance and / or facilitating new vendor additions liaising with Accounts Payable. Raise purchase orders with associated goods receipts as and where applicable. Communicate with suppliers re invoice and / or payment queries and timeously resolve all related queries. Prepare and analyse fixed asset reports for management and for distribution to relevant stakeholders, including asset acquisitions against approved capital budgets. Work with the full Finance team to streamline reporting efficiencies and improvements. Support auditing processes through the preparation of standard reports and data and by providing documentation and explanations as required. Update and maintain all related financial data, records and files as per company policies ensuring accuracy and integrity of information is maintained. Calculate and record monthly depreciation expenses and prepare related journal entries. Support Group Accountant with reports or data needed by the Group Accountant. Contribute to process improvements or automation projects initiated at group level. Assist with development and implementation of fixed asset policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Work closely with on-property representatives to ensure accurate asset tracking and reporting. Maintaining the Fixed asset register by adding or removing assets where applicable REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS Education: Ideally Bachelor`s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (a professional Accounting qualification is preferred) E xperience : Minimum 2 years’ exposure to Fixed Asset Accounting. At least 2 years experience in a hospitality environment. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of fixed asset registers. Proficiency in financial software (e.g., Sage, Procure, Micros, etc) and advanced Excel skills. Analytical Thinking: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Regulatory Knowledge: General understanding of South African financial regulations, compliance requirements and tax laws. Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines. Good understanding of the hospitality industry and its financial drivers. Strong ability to work cross-functionally with various departments and stakeholders. Commitment to upholding the highest standards of financial integrity and ethical behaviour. It is important that the candidate is able to work as part of a team and is a good cultural fit for The Royal Portfolio. South African citizenship is advantageous. A valid work permit is essential if you are not in possession of a South African ID document. It is a requirement that all new Finance employees undergo a pre-employment polygraph test.
