Job Summary
Minimum requirements for the role:
- Must have a tertiary degree in Agriculture, Poultry Science, Animal Science, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in hatchery management or a related field
- Hands-on experience with single and multi-stage incubation systems, particularly EMtech machines is essential
- Familiarity with biosecurity and health protocols in a hatchery setting is advantageous
- Must have strong knowledge of egg handling, incubation processes, and hatchery management best practices
- Experience working in an emerging market or rural setting is essential
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
- Must have strong organizational and communication skills
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing day-to-day operations of the hatchery, ensuring optimal egg handling and hatching.
- Operating and maintaining EMtech machines, including both single and multi-stage systems.
- Monitoring incubation conditions (temperature, humidity, ventilation) and ensuring proper egg turning and machine settings.
- Planning and implementing hatch schedules to optimize hatchability and chick quality.
- Training, supervising, and managing a team of six staff members, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to protocols.
- Ensuring all biosecurity measures are implemented and followed strictly to prevent contamination.
- Tracking and reporting on hatchery performance, including hatch rates, fertility, and any operational issues.
- Performing troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on equipment to minimize downtime.
- Ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.
- Collaborating with other departments, including breeding and distribution teams, to ensure smooth operations.
