Alberton: Millwright / Maintenance Technician (Hybrid – Mechanical & Drafting)

Job Title: Millwright / Maintenance Technician (Hybrid – Mechanical & Drafting) Location: Alrode Salary: Up to R40 000 per month Overview Our client, a manufacturing operation based in Alrode, is seeking a skilled Millwright / Maintenance Technician with a strong balance of hands-on mechanical expertise and technical drafting capability . This is a hybrid role suited to a candidate who can maintain and repair machinery , while also being able to interpret and produce technical drawings to support fabrication and plant improvements. Key Responsibilities 1. Drafting & Design (Office / Workshop Office) Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of mechanical components, assemblies, and plant layouts Work with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or AutoCAD Ensure all drawings meet technical and manufacturing specifications Update and maintain accurate design documentation 2. Mechanical Maintenance & Fitting (Hands-On) Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of machinery (e.g. pumps, gearboxes, production equipment) Assemble machinery and components according to technical drawings and schematics Conduct fault-finding and troubleshooting on mechanical breakdowns Carry out welding, machining, and fabrication where required Use precision measuring tools to ensure accurate fitment and alignment 3. Integrated Role Functions Act as a link between design and the workshop floor , ensuring practical implementation of designs Provide feedback on design improvements and manufacturability Assist with prototype development, testing, and optimisation Support continuous improvement initiatives within the plant Minimum Requirements Qualified Millwright or Mechanical Fitter (Trade Tested) Mechanical Engineering qualification (N5/N6 or equivalent) advantageous Proven experience in a manufacturing / factory environment Strong working knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD) Experience with machinery maintenance, fault finding, and repairs Key Skills Strong mechanical and technical aptitude Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings Hands-on experience with tools, welding, and machining Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills Ability to work both independently and within a team Ideal Candidate Profile A practical, solutions-driven individual who enjoys being both on the tools and behind a screen Comfortable moving between design work and the factory floor Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and efficiency
