Job Description
Head of Systems, Software and IT – Bryanston / Kyalami (Jhb)
R800k to R1M Per Annum (Negotiable on qualification & experience)
A leading Energy Group is seeking a hands-on, delivery-focused and operational Head of IT to lead the IT function across all entities.
The role reports to the Chief Investment Officer and Group CFO.
Role Purpose:
The Head of Systems, Software & IT is a hands-on, delivery-focused operational role responsible for the build, deployment, integration, and day-to-day performance of all business-critical systems across the Company. The role places strong emphasis on execution, ownership, pace, and reliability, ensuring systems work in practice, are adopted by teams, and continuously improve business outcomes.
While the role contributes to system planning and prioritisation, its primary mandate is delivery and operational excellence rather than high-level strategy. The incumbent is expected to lead from the front, drive teams and vendors, solve problems decisively, and take full accountability for systems being delivered on time, fit-for-purpose, and operating reliably.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Systems Ownership, Prioritisation & Execution
- Own the day-to-day performance, stability, and continuous improvement of the Company’s systems landscape.
- Translate agreed business priorities into clear, executable systems plans and delivery backlogs.
- Take practical ownership of system configurations, enhancements, fixes, and improvements.
- Ensure systems are scalable and robust through implementation discipline, not abstract architecture.
- Identify pragmatic opportunities for automation and AI enablement that deliver tangible operational or financial benefit.
2. Systems Development & Project Delivery
- Lead and project-manage the design, development, testing, and deployment of new systems and system enhancements, including:
- Billing and revenue systems
- Financial and accounting systems (Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Business Central)
- Financial reporting, management accounts, income statements, balance sheets, and cashflow reporting
- Executive, operational, and investor dashboards
- Maintenance and ticketing platforms
- CRM and customer-facing systems
- Energy monitoring and performance platforms
- Internal operational and reporting tools
- Translate business and financial requirements into clear technical specifications, data models, timelines, and delivery milestones.
- Work closely with Finance leadership to ensure systems correctly reflect accounting standards, revenue recognition, asset treatment, and management reporting needs.
- Manage internal development workstreams and external vendors or developers where applicable.
- Ensure structured change management, user acceptance testing (UAT), and post-deployment stabilisation.
3. Core Systems & Platform Ownership
Own, manage, and continuously improve core systems, including (but not limited to):
- Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Dynamics 365 Business Central (financials, general ledger, billing, reporting, and controls)
- Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate)
- CRM systems (Dynamics / integrated platforms)
- Billing and revenue management systems (BBEnergy)
- Monday.com (project, deployment, and workflow management)
- AMMP energy monitoring and data platforms
- PLC and site-level data integrations (where applicable)
- Share Drive digital repositories
Responsibilities include upgrades, integrations, performance optimisation, resilience, data integrity, and lifecycle management, with specific accountability for the accuracy and reliability of financial and management reporting outputs.
4. Business Intelligence, Reporting & Data Automation
- Oversee the development and maintenance of financial, operational, and asset-performance business intelligence solutions.
- Design and maintain income statements, management accounts, operational KPIs, and executive dashboards using Microsoft NAV / Business Central and Power BI.
- Implement AI-assisted reporting, anomaly detection, forecasting, and insight generation to improve decision-making and reduce manual analysis.
- Ensure accurate, automated, and auditable data flows across finance, operations, engineering, and asset management.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting cycles through reliable systems and automated reporting.
- Own data governance, chart-of-accounts alignment, data quality standards, and reporting consistency across regions.
5. Systems Integration & Data Flow Management
- Architect and manage integrations between ERP, CRM, billing, monitoring, and thirdparty systems using APIs, SQL, and middleware tools.
- Ensure seamless, secure, and reliable data movement across platforms.
- Reduce manual processes through automation and workflow optimisation.
6. IT Operations, Security & Infrastructure Oversight
- Oversee daytoday IT operations, including coordination with thirdparty IT service providers.
- Ensure robust cybersecurity controls, access management, backup, and disaster recovery processes.
- Manage hardware, user access, licensing, and device standards across the Group.
- Proactively identify and mitigate system risks, vulnerabilities, and performance bottlenecks.
7. Leadership, Delivery & Stakeholder Enablement
- Lead by example with a high-energy, delivery-driven mindset.
- Drive internal teams, super-users, and external vendors to deliver outcomes, not just activity.
- Build strong working relationships with Finance, Operations, Engineering, and Sales through responsiveness and reliability.
- Champion system adoption through practical training, problem-solving, and ongoing support.
- Take ownership of issues end-to-end, acting with agency, urgency, and accountability
8. Documentation, Governance & Compliance
- Ensure comprehensive technical documentation for systems, integrations, workflows, and customisations.
- Maintain version control, audit trails, and change logs.
- Support internal controls, investor due diligence, and audit requirements relating to systems and data.
Qualification, Skills, Experience & Competencies:
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in IT operations, preferably within the renewable energy, manufacturing, engineering or related industry
- Power BI – Programming level and DAX language (Essential)

- Experience in API design and integration (REST, JSON)

Project & Leadership Skills
- Proven ability to deliver systems in live operational environments, often under high-pressure conditions.
- Strong ownership and accountability, ensuring problems are resolved effectively from start to finish.
- Experienced in leading small technical teams and vendors, leveraging influence, clarity, and momentum.
- Highly organised, decisive, and execution-focused, able to maintain quality under tight deadlines.
- Skilled in balancing multiple priorities without compromising delivery quality.
Business & Commercial Acumen
