Job Description

A Urban Chic Hotel & Hospitality group seeks an experienced Bookkeeper with strong VAT knowledge to manage bookkeeping up to the trial balance using Xero and Dext. You will be responsible for processing daily, weekly and monthly financial transactions, ensuring VAT compliance, accurate reconciliations and proper expense coding. This role supports the Assistant Financial Manager and requires independent handling of transaction processing up to trial balance. Key Responsibilities General Bookkeeping & Financial Management Process and Reconcile daily bank transactions Accurately capture sales and Supplier invoices using Dext & Xero Ensure all documents comply with SARS requirements Prepare and compile weekly supplier payment batches for review (ready Thursdays; payments processed Friday’s) Prepare monthly supplier payment batches by reconciling supplier statements and submitting for review. Assist AFM with preparation of Management Accounts (monthly). Restaurant Accounting Record daily POS sales, tips, and reconcile with deposits. Track inventory purchases and manage COGS reporting. Process payroll, including tips and tax filings. Handle vendor invoices and payments. Produce weekly/monthly P&L reports for the restaurant. Core Competencies Strong foundational knowledge of VAT. Solid understanding of accounting principles and compliance standards. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracythis is critical. Excellent organisational and time-management skills. Good communication and teamwork abilities. Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Administrative Duties Communicate with tenants, vendors, and restaurant suppliers regarding payments and issues. Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems. Support ownership and management with ad-hoc financial analysis or special projects. Qualifications Minimum 3 years of experience in bookkeeping to Trail Balance Experience in property management and/or restaurant industry preferred. Proficient in accounting software (Xero & Dext ). Strong Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills. Excellent attention to detail and time management skills. Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality. Prior experience with bank reconciliations Preferred Qualifications Diploma in Bookkeeping Associates or Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Understanding of tax compliance Exceptional references Hotel / Hospitality Bookkeeper: 5 years (Required)
