Cape Town City Centre: Diesel Mechanic – Construction Machinery

Our client, a well-established construction company involved in major building and civil projects, is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join their operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, diagnostics, and repairs of all construction plant and machinery to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. Key Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on diesel-powered construction machinery (excavators, TLBs, graders, rollers, tipper trucks, generators, etc.) Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics, and mechanical assessments Ensure all equipment is safe, reliable, and compliant with company and safety standards Keep detailed records of work performed, parts used, and equipment condition Respond to breakdowns on-site and carry out urgent repairs efficiently Work closely with site management and plant operators to identify mechanical issues Maintain workshop tools, equipment, and inventory levels Adhere strictly to safety procedures and occupational health regulations Minimum Requirements Qualified Diesel Mechanic (Trade Test essential) 35 years experience working with construction plant and heavy diesel machinery Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostic skills Valid drivers licence (Code 8; PDP advantageous) Ability to work independently and under pressure Willingness to attend to breakdowns on sites across the region What We Offer Competitive market-related salary Opportunity to work with a reputable contractor Career stability with long-term project pipeline Supportive and safety-driven work environment
