Job Summary

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all aspects of commercial and industrial construction projects in Cape Town. This position will require experience in quantity surveying and a strong understanding of commercial and industrial construction processes.

Key

Responsibilities:


– Prepare cost estimates and budgets for commercial and industrial construction projects
– Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor bids and contracts
– Monitor project costs and budgets throughout the construction process
– Prepare progress reports and cost analysis for clients and stakeholders
– Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to optimize project costs
– Prepare monthly valuations and cost reports
– Assist with contract administration and claims management

Requirements:


– Bachelor`s degree in Quantity Surveying or related field
– Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial and industrial construction projects
– Proficiency in cost estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
– Strong communication and negotiation skills
– Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects, from pre-construction stages to project completion. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Estimation & Budgeting:

    • Prepare and analyze cost estimates for construction projects.
    • Develop and maintain project budgets, ensuring financial control is maintained throughout.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and cost planning to provide cost-effective solutions to clients.

  2. Contract Administration:

    • Assist in the preparation and negotiation of contracts and subcontracts.
    • Monitor and report on contract performance, ensuring compliance with terms.
    • Manage variations, claims, and disputes, providing expert advice on resolving contractual issues.

  3. Quantity Take-Off & Material Measurement:

    • Perform accurate quantity take-offs from construction drawings and plans.
    • Ensure all materials and labor costs are accurately quantified and tracked.
    • Measure and assess site quantities during the construction phase to ensure progress aligns with the budget.

  4. Procurement Management:

    • Prepare tender documents, including Bill of Quantities (BoQ) and tender specifications.
    • Review and evaluate tenders from contractors and suppliers, assisting in the selection process.
    • Advise on procurement strategies to ensure the timely acquisition of materials and services.

  5. Cost Control & Reporting:

    • Monitor and track project costs, ensuring all expenditures are within budget.
    • Prepare regular cost reports for clients and stakeholders.
    • Analyze and report on any deviations from the budget, providing corrective actions as necessary.

  6. Site Visits & Coordination:

    • Conduct regular site visits to ensure work is being completed according to specifications and on time.
    • Liaise with project managers, contractors, and clients to resolve any issues related to costs or quantities.
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental policies on site.

  7. Risk Management:

    • Identify potential financial risks and recommend strategies to mitigate them.
    • Provide input on risk management practices and ensure projects adhere to legal and regulatory standards.

  8. Client Liaison & Stakeholder Management:

    • Maintain effective communication with clients, ensuring they are updated on cost and project progress.
    • Collaborate with the project team to ensure client expectations are met in terms of cost, quality, and timeline.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Educational Requirements:

    • Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
    • Professional certification (e.g., SACQSP) is highly desirable.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
    • Strong background in cost estimation, budgeting, and contract administration.
    • Experience with both commercial and residential projects is advantageous.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficient in Quantity Surveying software (e.g., CostX, WinQS, CCS Candy).
    • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and project management.
    • Solid understanding of construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JBCC, FIDIC).
    • Advanced Excel skills for cost tracking and reporting.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor with specialized knowledge and experience in the solar industry to join our client`s team in South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing and controlling costs within solar projects, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit accurate cost estimates for solar projects
  • Analyze project specifications and develop cost-effective solutions
  • Work as part of a team to ensure that the requirements of the client are delivered.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring compliance with financial guidelines
  • Monitor and track project costs throughout the construction phase
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams to ensure cost control measures are implemented
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis and benchmarking to identify areas for cost savings
  • Prepare regular progress reports and financial forecasts for senior management
  • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure best prices and terms
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards

Requirements:

  • Bachelor`s degree in Quantity Surveying or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quantity surveying, with specific experience in the solar industry
  • Proven track record of successfully managing costs within solar projects
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and processes
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in budgeting and cost control software like CCS Candy
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and MS Projects
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional certification or registration as a Quantity Surveyor is preferred

Job Summary

A multi-disciplinary infrastructure consulting company in Cape Town is looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join their team! To fulfil the role of Professional Quantity Surveyor, the candidate must manage project activities to deliver specified scope within a fee budget, to an acceptable quality and on time.

Requirements:

 

  • BSc Quantity Surveying/BSc Quantity Surveying (Honours)
  • Professionally Registered with the SACQSP
  • Knowledge of construction contracts (JBCC, FIDIC, NEC, GCC)
  • WinQS proficient
  • DimensionX proficient
  • MS Office literacy

Responsibilities:

  • Managing costs on a wide variety of new and existing building projects and structures, such as residential developments, sports stadiums, roads and bridges, schools, hospitals, offices, factories and commercial properties.
  • Undertaking costs analysis for repair and maintenance project work.
  • Maintaining awareness of the different building contracts in current use.
  • Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
  • Assisting in establishing a client`s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies.
  • Performing risk and value management, cost control and value engineering.
  • Advising on procurement strategy, contract documentation and financial control.
  • Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, returnable schedules and Preliminaries & General.
  • Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks.
  • Preparing and analysing costing for tenders, tender evaluation, tender adjudication and appointment of contractors and/or sub-contractors.
  • Allocating work to subcontractors.
  • Providing advice on contractual claims, variation orders, site instructions, escalation and final accounts.
  • Analysing outcomes and writing detailed inception-,progress-, preliminary design-, final design reports. Valuing completed work and arranging payments.
  • Assisting the Bids Department with write-ups to be used for tender purposes for future QS work.
  • Calculation of escalation, penalties, monthly payment certificates and the reconciliation of the final account and close-out report.
  • Preparation of monthly cost reports / financial reports on projects.
  • Measurement of rentable areas.
  • Cash-flows.
  • Targeted procurement including training and monitoring.
