Job Description

A Sophisticated full-service hotel located in the CPT Seaboard region requires an operationally-involved Executive Housekeeper. Role Purpose: The successful Executive Housekeeper candidate will be responsible for the flawless presentation of a high-profile, multi-story hotel located in the heart of Sea Point. This role requires a leader who can balance the demands of a high-occupancy leisure hotel with the specific needs of long-stay apartments and suites. The successful candidate will ensure that the “salt-air” challenges of a coastline property are managed through proactive maintenance and that the guest experience reflects the sophisticated, cosmopolitan lifestyle of the Atlantic Seaboard. Key Responsibilities: Boutique Standard Maintenance: Ensure all 100 guest rooms and executive suites are maintained to a crisp, modern standard that appeals to international leisure and corporate travelers. Coastal Asset Protection: Implement specific cleaning and maintenance protocols to protect furniture, fixtures, and electronics from salt-air corrosion and high-humidity coastal conditions. Public Area Excellence: Maintain the aesthetic integrity of high-traffic areas, including the ocean-facing restaurant, pool deck, and urban lounge spaces. Strategic Laundry Management: Oversee the laundry cycle to ensure rapid turnaround of high-thread-count linens, focusing on whitening standards and fabric longevity. Environmental Sustainability: Lead the department in water-saving and eco-friendly cleaning initiatives, aligning with Cape Town’s sustainability focus. Guest Personalization: Coordinate “VIP Arrival” protocols, ensuring personalized housekeeping touches for repeat international guests and long-stay residents. Contractor Oversight: Manage relationships and performance for outsourced services such as window cleaning (essential for sea views) and specialized deep cleaning. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Online Reputation Management: Maintain a “Cleanliness” rating of 4.5/5 or higher on TripAdvisor and Google Reviews. Room Readiness: Ensure 95% of rooms are “Guest Ready” by the 14:00 check-in peak, regardless of high morning departure volume. Productivity Ratios: Maintain a staff-to-room cleaning ratio that aligns with seasonal occupancy fluctuations while staying within labor cost targets. Zero-Defect Audit: Achieve a 90% or higher score on internal brand standards and hygiene audits. Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure 100% adherence to COID and OHSA regulations, with zero incidents resulting from chemical mishandling. Minimum Requirements: Education: A formal qualification in Hospitality Management or Executive Housekeeping is required. Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Housekeeping Management, specifically within a 4-star “urban-chic” or beachfront hotel environment. Technical Knowledge: Expert knowledge of fabric care, high-end floor finishes (marble/wood), and specialized coastal cleaning agents. System Proficiency: Advanced experience with Hotel Management software (Opera/Optima) and Microsoft Excel for departmental reporting. Leadership Style: A “hands-on” leader who is visible on the floors and capable of managing a fast-paced, multi-cultural team in a high-pressure city environment. Supplier Location Awareness: Familiarity with the Cape Town supplier network and the logistical challenges of the Atlantic Seaboard (e.g., peak season traffic/access) is a major advantage.
