About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Practitioner to join our team in Cape Town. As a permanent employee, you will be responsible for providing expert tax advice and support to clients, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed and accurate computations to calculate tax liabilities and tax returns, including both complex and simple returns.
- Collate, sort, and process financial information concerning tax calculations, preparation of tax schedules, and drawing calculations.
- Submit all tax-related returns, documents, reconciliations, and self-assessments accurately, and correspond with clients to provide feedback on tax affairs, assessments, and payments by relevant deadlines.
- Compile management statements, annual financial statements, and other statistical, financial, and accounting reports. Draft all working papers required for the Annual Financial Statements and interpret, evaluate, and report on the AFS.
- Deal with client queries regarding bookkeeping, Annual Financial Statements, Management Statements, tax, income distributions, and related matters.
- Manage the administration of Income Tax, Provisional Tax, Employees’ Tax, Value-Added Tax, Dividend Tax, and Estate Planning.
- Correspond with SARS on behalf of clients on various matters, including objections, appeals, Alternative Dispute Resolution hearings, and other consultations across all tax types.
- Stay up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations.
- Train and support team members to ensure client tax compliance requirements are met to the high standards set by the firm.
- Assist with the billing process via accounting and practice software, including maintaining accurate timesheets.
- Perform any other reasonable work instructions or tasks, adhering to and contributing toward revenue targets.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification with at least 5 years’ practical tax and accounting experience in an accounting, audit, or financial firm
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience with SARS eFiling, Draftworx, Sage Accounting (Sage One), and/or Xero
- Registered tax practitioner and/or completion of 3-year SAIPA or SAICA articles (advantageous)
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- International Accounting Standards (IAS)
- International Financial Reporting Standards for Small and Medium-Sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs)
- Companies Act
- Income Tax Act
- Tax Administration Act
- VAT, PAYE, and other SARS regulations, including the SARS dispute resolution process
- Exceptional numerical and analytical skills
- Strong critical, logical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities
- High level of accuracy with strong data-capturing skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Afrikaans, with the ability to handle client queries professionally and effectively
- Proficiency in Draftworx, Sage One Accounting, Xero Accounting, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

- Formal education/certifications (Bachelor’s, LLB, Matric, etc.)
Salary & Benefits
- R35 000.00 – R37 000.00 per annum
