Overview of Role & Summary of Job Description: The role leads and manages the fundraising function at the CMSA, while simultaneously assuming the role of lead fundraiser. The role requires a highly self-motivated individual who will start up the function, design and develop its strategies, targets and implementation plans; lead and manage the fundraising operation, its finances/budget and resources; and optimise its impact. The incumbent will be a senior, experienced fundraising professional with an impressive track record in mobilising resources and managing the implementation of (externally funded) development projects. The role is keenly focused on diversifying the Colleges income streams and securing long-term financial sustainability for the CMSA. Main Responsibilities & Key Performance Task Areas: The incumbent will be responsible for: · Establishing the CMSA Fundraising Unit · Resourcing and Financial Planning/Budgeting · Staff Management · Funding/Income-generation Planning and Target-setting · Contributing to the Optimisation of the CMSA Brand Positioning · Overseeing Efficiency of Fundraising Support Systems · Process Design of Fundraising Processes, Policy and Procedures (including those for the identification of funding needs/prioritisation, proposal-development, prospect research, grant contracting, project implementation management, finance/admin, impact assessment/reporting and donor stewardship) · Leading the CMSA Fundraising Function and Assuming the Role of Lead Fundraiser · Implementing a Stewardship and Communication Plan · Facilitating Internal Networking and Coordination · Enhancing External Networking, Partnerships and Stakeholder Relations · Fundraising Unit Performance Management and Year-end Assessment · Administrative/Financial Control and Reporting. Skills Set Required: A broad set of skills , including: · Leadership and Leading by Example · Development and Implementation of Fundraising Strategies · Fundraising Process Management · Project Management of Externally Funded Initiatives · Excellent Interpersonal and Communication/Presentation Skills · Teamwork and Collaboration · Budgeting and Financial Management · Performance Management and Target Attainment · Adaptability and Initiative/Innovation · Passion for the Cause and Mission of the CMSA. Competency Requirements: Core competencies to be successful in this role relate to: · Strategic thinking, business approach, collaborative style, partnership orientation and personal commitment to the fundraising profession. · A self-starter who requires very little supervision, internally driven to exceed performance expectations. · Professionalism, high standards, and diplomacy in dealing with members of the CMSA, its constituent colleges and the CMSAs existing and prospective donors. · Strong problem-solving skills; and concurrent management of externally funded projects. · Commitment to confidentiality, ethical information management and best practices are not negotiable. · A strong ability to lead and to operationally implement the annual fundraising strategy. · Well-developed interpersonal, presentation and communication skills to assist in building both internal and external stakeholder partnerships and funding relationships. · A positive disposition, confident and outgoing style to ensure collaboration and synchronisation of fundraising activities. · Organisational skills, that is the ability to deal with competing priorities, simultaneously manage multiple projects and to meet deadlines. · Financial control and budget management competencies are essential Minimum Qualification Requirements: · A minimum of ten years in demonstrable fundraising success/performance and/or resource mobilisation management or a diploma/first degree/postgraduate qualification in business development or related field or a post-school qualification in income-generation or resource mobilisation. · Minimum of ten years experience in stewardship of donors and management of funded projects. Preferred Experience: The following experience would be advantageous: · Demonstrable experience and a proven track record of past fundraising performance, preferably developed at a large institution (eg. a school or faculty of medicine at a higher education institution or for a university). · Knowledge of the health and/or medical sectors; a strong existing network; and /or insight into the funding/grantmaking landscape. · Management experience in overseeing a fundraising function/team/portfolio/part of a fundraising unit. · An engaging, collaborative style that is well-suited to working constructively with members, academia, committees/volunteers, donors and a broad cross-section of CMSA colleagues.
