About the Role
Our client in the Logistics Industry, based in Camperdown, KwaZulu-Natal, is currently looking to employ an Assistant Planner to their team. As a key member of the logistics planning and fleet operations department, you will be responsible for managing vehicle releases, ensuring dispatch within 48 hours, and meeting OEM delivery lead times.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage vehicle releases and ensure planning within 24 hours
- Ensure dispatch within 48 hours
- Meet OEM delivery lead times
- Coordinate vehicle movements across all provinces
- Ensure alignment between depots and national operations
- Plan cost-effective and efficient loads
- Maximise carrier capacity and minimise handling and damages
- Ensure optimal routing and limited stops per trip
- Ensure correct load weights and prevent overloading
- Maximize legal capacity and fleet usage
- Ensure compliance with transport regulations and permits
- Incorporate maintenance and workshop planning
- Ensure clear, accurate, and executable plans
- Minimise risks and prevent vehicle damages
- Ensure on-time departures and deliveries
- Replace delayed carriers immediately
- Maintain continuous operational flow
- Ensure fair load distribution across drivers
- Support driver wellness and balanced scheduling
- Minimise idle time and improve productivity
- Work closely with drivers, team leaders, and planners
- Support cross-functional coordination
- Drive performance through realistic planning targets
- Track delivery performance, efficiency, and turnaround times
- Ensure consistent service delivery aligned with standards
Requirements
- 35 years of experience in logistics planning or fleet operations
- Strong understanding of route planning, fleet utilisation, and driver management
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail
- Experience in vehicle logistics or automotive supply chain
- Knowledge of national distribution networks
- Understanding of transport regulations and permits
