About the Role
A well-established law firm based in Musgrave, Durban is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Secretary to support one of the firm’s Directors in a litigation-focused practice. This role is ideal for a proactive, highly organised individual who takes pride in accuracy, client service, and meeting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing full secretarial support to a Director (litigation-focused)
- Dictaphone typing of legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings
- Drafting and preparing litigation documents including affidavits, warrants of execution, notices, and related documentation
- Managing the Director’s diary, deadlines, and follow-ups
- General legal administration and file management
- Ensuring all work is checked carefully for accuracy before submission
- Following up on matters proactively using established procedures
- Handling incoming calls from time to time in a professional, polite, and client-focused manner
- Liaising with clients in a courteous and helpful manner
- Using initiative to ensure matters are progressed efficiently
- Meeting strict legal deadlines consistently
Requirements
- 4–5 years’ experience as a Legal Secretary (litigation experience essential)
- Strong dictaphone typing skills
- Solid understanding of basic litigation procedures
- High attention to detail with excellent proofreading ability
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Confident and professional client communication skills
- Ability to work well in a small firm environment
