About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Microbiologist: Lab Assistant to join our team in Durban. As a key member of our laboratory, you will be responsible for assisting with various tasks and duties to ensure the smooth operation of our microbiology lab.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with autoclaving of specimen bottles, labware etc daily to ensure sufficient for use.
- Assist with preparation of working stock culture bottles, slants and deeps.
- Responsible for preparation of liquid media as required per work schedule/weekly production plan.
- Responsible for preparation of solid media as per weekly production plan and planned QC testing.
- Batching, labelling, logging and storage of plates in cleanroom.
- Assist Senior Microbiologist with routine QC testing (Fungi & Inoculants plants).
- Housekeeping: ensuring labware are washed on a daily basis.
- Assist lab intern with cleaning of lab counters, cupboards, and instrumentation daily.
- Cleaning the cleanroom daily.
- Assist with environmental monitoring on a weekly basis.
- Autoclave hazardous waste daily.
- Quality Control Testing: assist with routine QC testing, shelf-life testing and environmental monitoring as required.
- Record all test results in protocol daily.
- Report non-conformances to QC Manager immediately.
- Analyse and capture results from protocols daily onto QC database.
- General Replenishing of stock in all areas of lab.
- Manual temperature monitoring daily.
- Maintenance of lab stock sheet (chemical and consumables).
- Assist with water, air and surface testing as required.
Requirements
- National Diploma in Biotechnology or equivalent
- Computer literacy (MS Office, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
