Job Title: Boilermaker
Location: JHB – Eastern Suburbs
Job Purpose:
To fabricate, assemble, and repair boilers, tanks, and other heavy metal structures by applying trade skills, working from technical drawings, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. The candidate must demonstrate competence through a trade test.

Key Responsibilities:

• Fabricate and assemble boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and related components using cutting, shaping, and welding techniques.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding procedures accurately.
• Perform welding (MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.) as required to join metal components.
• Operate hand and power tools for cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting metals.
• Inspect and test completed work to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
• Maintain workshop equipment and tools in good working order.
• Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Assist in the maintenance and repair of industrial boilers and related equipment.
• Complete trade tests to demonstrate competence and skill level.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, supervisors, and other trades to meet project deadlines.

Requirements:

• Education & Qualifications:
  National Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent.
  Trade Test Certificate as a Boilermaker (Red Seal or equivalent certification).
• Experience:
  Minimum 3–5 years experience in boilermaking, fabrication, or heavy engineering.
  Proven track record working in industrial or engineering workshops.
  Experience with welding and metal fabrication processes.
• Skills & Competencies:
  Proficient in metal fabrication, cutting, fitting, and welding.
  Ability to interpret and work from technical drawings and schematics.
  Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  Knowledge of safety procedures and use of PPE in fabrication environments.
  Good physical stamina and ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  Must pass a trade test evaluation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain and have knowledge of all tools in the prescribed toolbox list
• Monitor weld preparation quality, consistent with relevant procedures, specifications and client requirements
• Able to understand engineering practices and processes (Notch, back, marks)
• Ability to understand drawings, development, fabrication of pipe and steel structures
• Ability to undertake marking out of measurements on pipes, plates and beams. Will involve undertaking calculations
• Cutting, manipulating and weld preparing pipe to specifications and drawings, using tools such as saws, grinders, cutting torches, pipe threaders and benders
• Assembling and securing pipes, tubes, fittings and related equipment according to specifications
• Safe storing and use of oxy-acetylene gas cylinders
• Attaching pipes to structures and fixtures
• Inspecting, examining and testing installed systems and pipes using observation or other methods to determine repair points
• Measuring and marking pipes for cutting and threading
• Laying out full-scale drawings of pipe systems supports and related equipment

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 (with English, Maths/Science/Technical Drawings)
• Completion of Boilermaker Trade Test (Red Seal)
• Minimum of 2 years working experience as a Boilermaker in a Boiler
