About the Role
Hire Resolve’s client is seeking a skilled and experienced Buyer to join their team in the food industry in the Western Cape. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of the food industry, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure food products, ingredients, and supplies from approved suppliers, ensuring high quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating prices, terms, and contracts to ensure favorable pricing and conditions.
- Analyze market trends, competitor prices, and product availability to identify potential opportunities for cost reduction and improvement in overall product offering.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as the production team and quality assurance, to ensure timely delivery of products that meet quality and safety standards.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to minimize stockouts and excess inventory while optimizing working capital.
- Conduct regular supplier assessments to evaluate performance in terms of quality, delivery, and service levels.
- Stay updated on industry developments, regulations, and market dynamics related to food sourcing and procurement practices.
- Maintain accurate records of supplier agreements, contracts, and communications to facilitate effective supplier relationship management.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements in procurement operations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and legal requirements related to procurement activities.
- Using MRP and SYSPRO applications.
Requirements
- 2 or more years’ experience as a buyer in the food or FMCG industry, preferably in Western Cape.
- In-depth knowledge of food products, industry trends, and supplier networks.
- Strong negotiation skills with a track record of achieving favorable pricing and contract terms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze data and market trends to make informed procurement decisions.
- Proficiency in using procurement software and tools.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of food safety and quality standards is preferred.
