SENIOR FACTORY MANAGER Level of Work: Senior Management Direct report (solid line): Chief Executive Officer Minimum Education required : NQF Level 6/7 Degree in an Engineering discipline – Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Metallurgy, Millwright, or equivalent qualification Qualification in financial management is advantageous. Minimum Experience required: 5 years of post qualification engineering or process experience in FMCG, Chemical and Processing or Mining industry. Purpose of the Role: The main responsibility of the Factory manager is to deliver products of maximum quality in a cost-effective, safe, and reliable manner, while maintaining the factory assets in a cost-effective way to ensure safe and reliable production. The Factory manager is responsible to lead, direct and manage all aspects of the business to achieve the desired growth, profit and strategic business objectives or ambitions of the business unit. Primary Responsibilities Task & responsibilities Development of asset preservation strategy Ensure the development of the asset preservation strategy, AM objectives and operational plans. Responsible for the asset register remaining useful and compare to current asset condition to determine the remaining preservation strategy. Evaluate previous years budget and expenses to determine the following maintenance budget and Asset preservation strategy. Responsible for the performance of the plant and identifying focus areas and new performance targets. Implementation of asset preservation strategy Ensure maintenance standards are developed for the department. Ensure cost -effective and safe maintenance execution. Translate the asset preservation strategy and AM objectives into plans, budgets and KPIs for the maintenance function and provide the resources to execute these plans. Allocate the budgets and performance target to relevant heads of department. Management of Maintenance effectiveness Ensure the effective execution of preventive and reactive maintenance work on the factorys assets to optimize their performance at minimal cost and risk. Evaluate the work orders for the week (status; backlog; schedule; compliance; performance) and address any problems with the relevant heads of department. Review and monitor the cost of maintenance (SAP & Excel maintenance sheet) and address any problems with the relevant heads of department. Evaluate critical plant/equipment status to determine the scheduling of planned maintenance. Drive quality and eliminate defects through continuous improvement. Drive continuous improvement in process and maintenance (KPI review meetings; defect elimination; small projects). Appraise all continuous improvement tasks/opportunities. Prioritise, plan and resource CI projects. Ensures the master tile specifications are valid. Analyse the customers complaints to gain insight into problems to eliminate inefficiencies. Monitor daily/weekly QC inspection from the Lab to identify areas for efficiencies. Recruit, Train & Develop, Lead, Manage and direct People. Recruit critical technical skills Manage apprenticeship pipelines and their assignment and Manage and lead the team. Provide mentoring and coaching to develop and improve team performance. Source and manage relationships with external and internal suppliers, OEM, shared resources. Organize workflow by assigning responsibilities and preparing schedules. Develop people pipeline for business continuity. Ensure employee accountability for KPIs. Lead change management. Set clear delegations (authorities, accountabilities, objective setting) Promote competency and capability development. Lead and enable collaboration. Safety, Health and Environment Ensure compliance with SHERQ regulations and system. Ensure safety Policies and Procedures are implemented and adhered to. Monitor and ensure (Monthly; weekly; quarterly; and annual) safety inspection is done, and records kept. Plans and coordinates Internal & External audits (ISO9001; OHS Audit; Risk audit). Monitor time and attendance (overtime, time worked; absenteeism) and address problem areas with responsible department head. Ensure the safe use and regular maintenance of process equipment. Product development Drive new product development. Monitor market and sale trends to ensure product range is fashionable, sustainable and value for money. Investigate and research new technology and market trends. Productivity Set daily/weekly/monthly production targets and objectives and communicate them to the support and process teams. Develop and implement action plans to ensure production targets are met. Ensure production outputs are according to specifications. Schedule weekly KPI meetings to review progress against targets. Manage all department performance against KPIs. Compile and submit quarterly board reports (requirements as determined by CEO) Monitor the quality of specification of raw materials. Evaluate and plan asset replacement decisions based on the assets life cycle costs. Quantify the value of improvements and justify them through a business case. SHE Risk Management Integrates Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) risk management into all support and process activities to ensure optimal business performance. Pro-actively identifies, assesses, prioritise, and mitigates against potential risks. Continuously identifies opportunities to enhance SHE performance to protect employees, contractors, customers, and company assets. Effectively embeds leading SHE management practices, identifies areas for improvement and recommends actions to address gaps
