Job Summary

The Group Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial accounting, reporting, and control functions across the companys global courier and logistics operations. This individual will ensure that financial statements are accurate, compliant with relevant accounting standards, and produced in a timely manner. The role involves managing financial processes, controlling internal financial operations, and providing leadership to the finance team to ensure financial integrity and accountability within the companys operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and other relevant financial reporting standards, particularly in the logistics and courier industry.

  • Coordinate the preparation of tax filings and manage compliance with local and international tax regulations affecting the company.

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results to senior management and external stakeholders, including auditors, investors, and regulatory bodies.

  • Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements.

  • Coordinate and oversee external audits, addressing any issues or concerns raised by auditors.

  • Perform internal audits and review financial processes to identify areas for improvement or risk.

  • Manage the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to ensure financial targets align with the companys strategic goals.

  • Oversee the preparation of financial forecasts and provide variance analysis to identify potential financial risks or opportunities.

  • Provide management with key financial insights and analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making, particularly in optimizing costs related to logistics and courier operations.

  • Oversee cash management processes, ensuring adequate liquidity for operations while optimizing working capital.

  • Monitor cash flows, bank accounts, and debt covenants to ensure financial stability.

  • Manage and optimize cash reserves and debt structures in collaboration with senior management.

  • Oversee the effective use of financial management software and ERP systems to ensure streamlined financial reporting, analysis, and compliance.

  • Lead the optimization of accounting and financial systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting timelines.

  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and standardization across the business.

Requirements

  • CA (SA)

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in financial accounting, auditing, and reporting, ideally within the logistics and courier industry

  • In-depth knowledge of international financial reporting standards (IFRS, GAAP), tax laws, and financial regulations

  • Proven experience in managing financial operations within a complex, multi-entity business

  • Strong proficiency in financial management software and ERP systems

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and financial modeling

  • Fluent in Afrikaans English

Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Lead the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for global operations, ensuring adherence to IFRS, GAAP, and other relevant standards.
  • Oversee the preparation of tax filings and ensure compliance with local and international tax regulations.
  • Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting to senior management, auditors, investors, and regulatory bodies.

2. Internal Controls & Audit Management:

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate external audits, addressing issues raised by auditors.
  • Conduct internal audits, reviewing financial processes to identify risks and areas for improvement.

3. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):

  • Manage the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to align financial targets with strategic objectives.
  • Oversee financial forecasting and provide variance analysis to highlight financial risks and opportunities.
  • Deliver key financial insights to support strategic and operational decision-making.

4. Cash Flow & Treasury Management:

  • Oversee cash management processes to ensure liquidity and optimize working capital.
  • Monitor cash flows, bank accounts, and debt covenants to maintain financial stability.
  • Manage and optimize cash reserves and debt structures in collaboration with senior leadership.

5. Financial Systems & Process Optimization:

  • Ensure effective use of financial management software and ERP systems for streamlined reporting and compliance.
  • Lead the optimization of accounting and financial systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develop and implement standardized financial policies and procedures across the business

Requirements

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) – SA designation.
  • 2-5 years experience in financial accounting, auditing, and reporting within the logistics industry
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, tax laws, and financial regulations.
  • Proven track record in managing financial operations within a corporate environment.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with experience in financial modeling.
  • Leadership & Management: Ability to manage, mentor, and develop a global finance team.
  • Financial Analysis: Strong analytical capabilities to interpret financial data and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in financial reporting and compliance activities.
  • Problem Solving: Aptitude for addressing complex financial challenges with practical solutions.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to convey financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
