Hillbrow: Research Nurse (Night Shift – 3 Months Temp Contract – Wits RHI)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Nurse to join our team at Wits RHI, located in Hillbrow, Johannesburg. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for providing best practice, data collection, and clinical assessments according to different study protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Inform participants about the study
• Verify consent status prior to conducting any study procedures
• Draw blood, cord blood from participants and maternal serum samples, process samples as required and specified within the protocol and laboratory manuals and send samples/specimens to laboratory OR ensure they are properly stored
• Obtain vital signs and other special investigations as per study guidance
• Conduct pre and post HIV and Hepatitis B Test Counselling (if needed)
• Provide appropriate health education and counselling where necessary
• Communicate participant management to site based staff in a timely manner adhering to ALOCOA principles
• Perform tasks based on the protocol training provided and take accountability for self-training and documentation of this training
• Collect participant data from medical notes and complete source document
• Document necessary procedures, sample collection and data collection details in relevant source documents adhering to GCP principles
• Completion of source documents accurately and in a timely manner
• Maintain full clinical records for all participants
• Perform sample related activities such as but not limited to labelling, storage, collection, storing and completion of DCFs
• Compile relevant reports and feedback on all activities
• Report on Protocol deviations that occurred on different studies
• Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
• Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
• Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
• Take ownership for driving own career development in attending training and development sessions and relevant

Requirements

• Diploma in General Nursing
• Minimum 2 years relevant work experience within a clinical research environment, preferably with HIV management
• Working experience with maternal and paediatric participants will be an advantage
• Ordered and systematic with strict compliance to protocols
• Be tactful, respectful and maintain confidentiality
• Good administrative skills together with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Share Point
• Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Sound work ethic and good self-management skills
