Kendrick Recruitment is seeking a senior, hands-on Security Manager to lead all security and anti-poaching operations at a private game reserve in the Greater Kruger area. This role requires an operational leader capable of physically leading anti-poaching teams, managing security staff, and ensuring the safety of wildlife, guests, staff, and assets through intelligence-driven operations and rapid response.
Key Responsibilities
Security Operations & Anti-Poaching
Lead and manage all anti-poaching and reserve security operations
Plan and deploy patrols, K9 units, and rapid response teams to ensure full coverage
Establish intelligence networks and early-warning systems
Ensure readiness for emergency call-outs and joint operations with law enforcement
Oversee control room operations, communications, and incident coordination
Compliance & Governance
Design and maintain a comprehensive security compliance framework
Ensure full compliance with firearms legislation, PSIRA requirements, environmental laws, and reserve policies
Maintain accurate records for firearms, ammunition, permits, and security documentation
Conduct audits of security procedures, equipment, and personnel
Team Leadership & Training
Manage and motivate APU, rangers, K9 handlers, and security staff
Identify training needs and implement continuous development programmes
Conduct performance management, discipline, and succession planning
Collaboration & Liaison
Work closely with Warden, Veterinary, and Ecological teams during operations such as game captures
Liaise with SAPS, neighbouring reserves, environmental authorities, and community structures
Build and maintain a local security network for intelligence sharing and joint operations
Gate Security & Human Security
Oversee outsourced gate security and visitor access control
Manage staff and contractor vetting processes
Support internal investigations, integrity testing, and disciplinary processes
Surveillance & Technology
Oversee camera surveillance systems, sensor traps, and perimeter monitoring
Manage a fully functional control room
Ensure proper handling, integrity, and reporting of surveillance data
Assets, Equipment & K9
Ensure accountability and maintenance of vehicles, firearms, radios, and equipment
Oversee K9 care, training standards, and operational readiness
Reporting
Compile operational, compliance, and incident reports
Maintain accurate records of rosters, training, incidents, and access control
Minimum 5 years experience in conservation or security operations, preferably in a Big Five reserve
Relevant qualification in Security Management, Conservation, or related field
PSIRA registration (Grade AE)
Proven leadership in anti-poaching or security operations
Valid firearm competency and licence
First Aid Level 1 (minimum)
Valid drivers licence
Strong knowledge of Firearms Control Act, NEMBA, PSIRA, and related legislation
Proficiency in radio communications, GPS mapping, surveillance systems, and platforms such as EarthRanger
Physically fit and able to work extended, irregular hours
Tactical or military background advantageous
Ability to physically lead field response teams
