About the Role
The Johannesburg-based Commodity Specialist is a strategic, high-impact role that drives cost, supplier, and performance outcomes across assigned commodity categories. With 56 years of experience in a Commodity Specialist or senior procurement role, you will be responsible for managing end-to-end procurement processes from sourcing to contract execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting spend analysis , market intelligence, and supplier benchmarking
- Developing and executing commodity and sourcing strategies aligned to business objectives
- Owning and managing commodity categories across raw materials and engineered components
- Managing supplier sourcing, negotiations, and tender processes
- Leading vendor performance management and long-term supplier relationships
- Driving budget control, cost optimisation, and savings initiatives
Requirements
- BCom (Supply Chain / Procurement / Commercial) or Engineering qualification
- Strong exposure to heavy industry, manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environments
- Proven experience sourcing raw materials and technical/engineered commodities
- Experience managing complex supplier landscapes and strategic sourcing initiatives
- Strong working knowledge of SAP (essential)
- Advanced analytical and numerical capability – Power BI or Microsoft BI
