Job Description

About the Role The Finance team requires an experienced Controller to assume direct ownership of all audit-related deliverables. The South African entity is currently multiple years in arrears, and the successful candidate will lead the process of bringing all financial periods up to date and fully compliant with IFRS and statutory requirements. This role demands a highly skilled, inquisitive professional with strong technical accounting knowledge, audit management expertise, and a hands-on, solutions-driven mindset. Key Responsibilities Assess historical financial information and prepare supporting documentation required for audit completion. Engage with internal stakeholders to obtain all supporting evidence needed for statutory audits. Manage the relationship with external financial statement preparers to ensure IFRS-compliant financials for all outstanding periods. Lead interactions with external auditors, ensuring proactive engagement and delivery within agreed timelines. Identify gaps, implement process improvements, and support the Finance team in achieving ongoing compliance. Provide support to Financial Leadership on various deliverables, including: Current-period controllership tasks in coordination with the South African Controller Audit and compliance support for other African entities (Nigeria and Morocco) Corporate Income Tax, VAT, and Transfer Pricing matters Uphold and embody the organisations core values in all aspects of work. Required Experience & Competencies Strong experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Accountant. Qualified Accountant ideally CA(SA) ; ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent designation will also be considered. Proven experience as the primary liaison during statutory audits. Advanced knowledge of IFRS , with strong exposure to IFRS 15, IFRS 16, and IFRS 9 . Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, make sound recommendations, and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Audit or statutory account preparation experience is essential. A combination of education and experience may be considered where suitable. Additional Skills Strong decision-making ability with the capacity to gather, interpret, and act on financial information. Excellent communication and influencing skills across all organisational levels. Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing complex, multi-period audit processes. As our Financial Controller, you’ll play a key role in overseeing the financial health of our manufacturing operations. This includes budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and supporting continuous improvement across our finance function. You’ll be a trusted advisor to senior management, bringing financial clarity to decision-making. Join a cornerstone of South African industry, a leader in primary and fabricated metal manufacturing with a significant footprint across the continent. Our business relies on a strong finance function to ensure profitability, manage capital investment, and maintain financial integrity in a dynamic global market. We seek an experienced Financial Controller to drive strategic decisions and shape our manufacturing performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full ownership of financial reporting, including monthly management accounts, statutory compliance, and consolidated group reporting.
  • Drive cost management initiatives by analyzing key manufacturing cost drivers such as raw material usage, scrap rates, energy consumption, and labour efficiency.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasts, ensuring alignment with operational and strategic objectives.
  • Leverage ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JDE) to streamline processes, enhance data accuracy, and deliver actionable insights on production costs and variances.
  • Oversee CAPEX planning, approval processes, and post-implementation reviews to ensure optimal return on investment.
  • Ensure adherence to financial policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • SAICA-accredited BCom Accounting Degree (or equivalent).
  • Completed SAICA articles (trainee contract) is essential.
  • 5 years post-articles experience, preferably in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of standard costing, production variances, and inventory valuation.
  • Proficiency in a major ERP system (SAP, Oracle, JDE).
  • Experience in metal manufacturing, mining, heavy engineering, or automotive will be highly advantageous.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and assessing financial information, preparing supporting documentation, and liaising with external parties to ensure compliance with IFRS standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and assess financial information available
  • Prepare supporting information as required to satisfy audit deliverables
  • Liaise with key personnel to obtain supporting information
  • Manage the relationship with external Financial Statement preparers to ensure IFRS compliant Financial Statements are prepared for the years in question
  • Manage the relationship with the company auditor, ensuring a proactive engagement to meet agreed company timeframes for completion of each financial period in question
  • Provide guidance to existing Finance team on process improvements and gaps notified

Requirements

  • Strong experience as a Financial Controller or Accountant
  • History of being the primary liaison for Statutory Audits
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, make clear recommendations to management and third-party service providers to meet objectives
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, in particular, IFRS 15, 16 and 9

Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, CPA or similar qualification)
