About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our team in Johannesburg, responsible for overseeing the financial control and bookkeeping function across multiple local and international insurance entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the end-to-end financial control and bookkeeping function across multiple local and international insurance entities
- Oversee and manage inter-company transactions, ensuring accuracy, alignment, and timely resolution of balances
- Prepare and review accounts up to trial balance, ensuring clean, accurate, and well-maintained general ledgers
- Lead the month-end close process, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and supporting schedules
- Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances proactively
- Ensure accuracy and completeness across key accounts, including bank, VAT, payroll, debtors, creditors, and inter-company balances
- Coordinate and support audit processes through the preparation of high-quality documentation and engagement with auditors
- Strengthen and maintain financial controls and governance frameworks across the Group
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and drive efficiencies through systems optimisation and advanced Excel usage
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 10+ years experience in accounting or financial control
- Strong experience within insurance, financial services, or multi-entity regulated environments
- Proven track record in full-function accounting and ownership of month-end close processes
