About the Role
Werkie is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join their operations team in Industria, Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the factory buildings, machinery, and infrastructure in a safe, compliant, and fully operational condition.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform routine servicing, inspections, and minor repairs on forklifts.
• Conduct visual inspections and minor maintenance on overhead cranes.
• Assist with preparation for statutory inspections and Department of Labour audits.
• Carry out general building maintenance including roofing, gutters, windows, doors, walls, and flooring.
• Maintain plumbing systems and resolve leaks and drainage issues.
• Perform basic electrical maintenance (lights, plugs, switches) within legal scope.
• Implement and follow preventative maintenance schedules.
• Maintain service logs, maintenance records, and checklists.
• Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with OHSA standards.
• Ensure factory walkways, work areas, and emergency exits remain safe and compliant.
• Liaise with contractors and external service providers when required.
• Perform ad-hoc maintenance and repair tasks as required by management.
Requirements
• Matric.
• Qualification in Maintenance/Repairs or related technical field.
• 35 years experience in a factory or industrial maintenance environment.
• Previous experience in the marble, granite, or quartz manufacturing industry (Non-negotiable).
• Basic computer literacy for maintenance records.
• Basic knowledge of forklift and overhead crane maintenance.
• Sound understanding of health and safety requirements in a factory environment.
