Job Description

The Millwright is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment within a manufacturing or production environment. The role ensures maximum equipment uptime through effective preventative maintenance, rapid breakdown response, and efficient changeovers while maintaining strict compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards. The position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. Key Responsibilities Operational & Technical Duties Receive and complete tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor Obtain and follow correct process instructions for all assigned jobs Ensure machine set-ups and line changes are completed with minimal production interruption and optimized changeover times Undertake safe and efficient installation of new mechanical and electrical equipment, plant, and machinery Promptly attend to breakdowns and stoppages caused by mechanical or electrical faults Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance on all plant equipment as directed Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including function and control systems Troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems (basic coding advantageous) Compliance & Safety Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe working practices at all times Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and relevant legislation Emphasize adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards Follow lockout/tagout and safety protocols during maintenance activities Shift & Additional Responsibilities Perform shift work, overtime (within legislated limits), and standby duties as per departmental rosters Undertake additional tasks, projects, or responsibilities as allocated by Management Demonstrate the ability to work independently and perform effectively under pressure Key Requirements Qualifications Minimum Qualification: Electrical / Millwright / Mechatronics Certified Millwright with a completed Trade Test 5 years of relevant industrial or manufacturing experience Technical Skills & Experience Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills Working knowledge of PLC and HMI systems (coding advantageous) Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and controls Knowledge of DC motors, VSDs / VFDs (advantageous) Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings Personal Attributes Self-driven and proactive Strong problem-solving ability Able to work under pressure Team-oriented with good communication skills
