Role Overview
The Principal Civil / Structural Engineer will provide technical leadership, design oversight, and mentoring within multidisciplinary project teams. The role involves the design, review, and approval of civil and structural systems for underground mining infrastructure, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, safety requirements, and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the civil and structural design of underground mining infrastructure, including shafts, declines, chambers, foundations, and support systems
- Provide technical authority and sign-off on designs, calculations, and reports
- Manage and review designs prepared by engineers and designers
- Interface with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and mining regulations
- Conduct site inspections and provide construction support as required
- Contribute to project planning, risk assessments, and cost estimates
- Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers
- Support business development through proposals and technical input
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree advantageous)
- Professional registration (PrEng / CEng / PE or equivalent)
- Experience, with significant exposure to underground mining projects
- Strong background in underground structural design and ground support systems
- Proven leadership experience in a principal or senior engineering role
- Proficiency in relevant design software and engineering analysis tools
- Strong communication, report writing, and client-facing skills
- Ability to work independently and lead technically complex projects
