Introduction Harmony Gold Mine is seeking a highly technical and analytical Software Infrastructure Second Level Support Manager to join our Group Technology division. Operating within a hybrid corporate environment, this role blends senior-level engineering lifecycle management with strategic infrastructure coordination. The successful candidate will be fully accountable for architecting, integrating, and supporting core enterprise middleware, API platforms, automated configuration frameworks, and identity directory services. This position ensures optimal business continuity, robust disaster recovery models, and the operational integrity of secure, scalable technology ecosystems across our mining operations. Minimum Requirements Applicants must fulfill the following criteria to be considered for this position: Education: Diploma in a relevant field (NQF 5) alongside a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Experience: 8 years of dedicated experience in software infrastructure, systems engineering, or enterprise integration roles. Middleware & Integration Mastery: Strong experience managing core middleware environments (e.g., WebLogic, WebSphere, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Azure Service Bus) paired with advanced knowledge of API design, secure data exchange protocols, and system integration patterns (REST/SOAP/GraphQL). Identity Services Expertise: Senior-level, practical experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Azure AD, focusing on domain design, forest architecture, GPO development, identity federation, and hybrid identity integration. Automation Engineering: Hands-on experience executing infrastructure tasks and provisioning utilizing automation tools such as PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, and Azure DevOps. Disaster Recovery: Proven background in disaster recovery (DR) planning, dependency mapping, runbook execution, and continuity testing cycles aligned to corporate frameworks. Certifications: Must possess professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate and either Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Administrator Associate. Compliance & Safety: Demonstrated capability working with cross-functional teams and external vendors, coupled with a strict commitment to safety guidelines governed by the Mine Health and Safety Act. Advantageous Attributes: TOGAF or AWS Certified Solutions Architect designations; previous operational experience in the mining or heavy industry sectors. Job Description Summary The Software Infrastructure Second Level Support Manager manages the full lifecycle of software infrastructure components and identity systems. Key responsibilities include: Infrastructure Lifecycle Management: Overseeing the end-to-end design, implementation, automation, integration, and operational support of enterprise middleware and platform engineering services. Directory & Identity Governance: Acting as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Active Directory forest architecture, domain restructuring, GPO structuring, identity lifecycle management, and integration with Azure AD/Entra ID. API & Middleware Engineering: Designing and maintaining robust middleware systems and secure API configurations to optimize data exchange, performance, and overall platform observability across enterprise applications. Automation & Operational Excellence: Driving the development of standardized best-practice frameworks and automating environment provisioning or configuration routines using modern Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
