Job Description
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the review, verification, and approval of mechanical designs for utility-scale Solar PV projects at each site. The role ensures structural reliability, tracker and torque tube integrity, and that all mechanical drawings are approved to Issued for Construction (IFC) standards. One engineer will be assigned per site.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design Review & Approval
- Review structural, tracker, and torque tube designs to ensure compliance with project specifications and engineering standards.
- Approve mechanical drawings to IFC stage.
- Ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and safe for construction and long-term operation.
Structural Reliability & Fatigue Assessment
- Assess structural reliability under design loads, environmental conditions, and fatigue over time.
- Verify all mechanical systems meet safety, durability, and performance requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement design improvements and optimizations.
Collaboration & Technical Coordination
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, and project engineering teams to ensure fully integrated designs.
- Provide technical guidance to EPC teams and resolve mechanical queries during construction and installation.
- Participate in design review meetings and maintain design compliance.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of reviewed drawings, approvals, and design calculations.
- Produce technical reports, review notes, and design compliance documentation.
- Ensure all mechanical designs meet internal quality and client standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Requirements
- BSc / BTech in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Approximately 10 years’ experience in mechanical design, structural engineering, or renewable energy projects.
- Proven experience with tracker systems, torque tube assemblies, and structural/fatigue analysis.
- Proficiency in CAD software, structural analysis tools, and engineering calculations.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Knowledge of Solar PV tracker systems and structural mechanics.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience reviewing and approving designs to IFC standards.
