About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our finance team based in Pretoria East. As the Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the full accounting function and managing a team of bookkeepers, debtors, and creditors. This is an ideal opportunity for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys leading a team and maintaining strong financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the full accounting function
  • Managing and supporting the bookkeeper, debtors, and creditors staff
  • Reviewing monthly reconciliations and ensuring accuracy of financial records
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports
  • Budgeting and forecasting support
  • Ensuring compliance with internal controls and financial policies
  • Assisting with audits and year-end processes
  • Driving process improvements within the finance department

Requirements

  • BCom degree in Accounting or a related field (essential)
  • Minimum 5 years commercial experience
  • Proven experience managing finance staff (bookkeeper, debtors, and creditors)
  • Strong understanding of financial controls and reporting
  • Advanced MS Excel proficiency
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent communication skills

About the Role

Our client within the financial sector requires an experienced accountant to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing financial insights to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the general ledger
  • Process journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
  • Ensure accurate and complete financial data capture
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable:
  • Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare customer invoices and follow up on outstanding payments
  • Maintain accurate ageing reports for both AP and AR
  • Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Assist with management accounts and variance analysis
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Compile audit schedules and assist auditors during annual audits
  • Compliance & Controls:
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies
  • Maintain proper documentation for all financial transactions
  • Support tax submissions (VAT, PAYE, income tax) with accurate data
  • Cash Flow & Banking:
  • Perform daily bank reconciliations
  • Monitor cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts
  • Process and record banking transactions
  • Payroll Support (if applicable):
  • Prepare payroll inputs and verify accuracy
  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts
  • Ensure statutory deductions are correctly calculated and submitted
  • Operational Support:
  • Provide financial insights to support business decisions
  • Assist department managers with budget tracking
  • Participate in process improvements to enhance financial efficiency

Requirements

  • Relevant accounting experience (25 years preferred)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Professional registration (e.g., SAIPA/SAICA) advantageous
