About the Role
The Manager: Legal Advisor (Africa) role supports the African Region in all legal matters, finding effective solutions for the business and ensuring compliance with Company directives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the African Region in all legal matters
- Determine the most suitable legal entity structures in various African Region markets
- Comment, draft, and finalise commercial agreements related to imports, distributorships, dealer agreements, goods/services provided, sponsorships/trade exchanges, training, funding/grants, loans, sales, partnerships, etc.
- Provide legal and business advice to ensure compliance with legislation relevant to day-to-day operations
- Remain abreast of legal developments in general and within the Motor Industry in particular
- Participate in specialist committees to promote synergies within the organization
- Represent Company at automotive and other relevant legal forums on matters of common interest
- Oversee and manage litigation/alternative dispute resolution proceedings with external support
- Protect intellectual property of the Group
- Support the Integrity, Risk and Compliance Department as needed
- Identify training requirements for the field of law and present them within the Company
- Assist in developing training modules relevant to various fields of law
- Meet with colleagues from related subsidiaries as needed
- Ensure that Legal Department representatives act ethically to uphold Company’s reputation
Requirements
- Post-graduate qualifications in commercial law (recommended)
- Knowledge of Intellectual Property legislation (e.g. Trademarks, Copyright, Design) (advantageous)
- Admission as an Attorney/Advocate
- Minimum 8 to 10 years in commercial law (post-admission) or a minimum of 8 years relevant working experience (preferably in the Automotive or related industries)
