About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Legal Advisor to join our team in Pretoria, South Africa. As a key member of our African Region, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and support to ensure the company’s compliance with relevant legislation and business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the African Region in all legal matters to find effective solutions for the business.
  • Determine the most suitable legal entity structures in various African Region markets within which Company is active or intends to enter.
  • Comment, draft, and finalise commercial agreements on behalf of the company, including Importer, Distributor, Dealer, Assembly Agreements, goods/services being provided, sponsorships/trade exchanges, training, funding/grants, loans, sales, partnership, etc.
  • Provide legal and business advice to ensure compliance with Company Group Organisational Directives and relevant legislation affecting day-to-day operations.
  • Remain abreast of legal developments in general and within the Motor Industry in particular to create awareness, ensure internal compliance, and provide training on significant legislation.
  • Participate in specialist committees to promote synergies within the organization and in relation to consultants on a pro-active basis.
  • Represent Company at automotive and other relevant legal forums on matters of common interest without competition law implications arising.
  • Oversee and manage litigation/alternative dispute resolution proceedings initiated by or instituted against Company with support from external legal practitioners.
  • Protect intellectual property of the Group.
  • Support the Integrity, Risk and Compliance Department as and when necessary.
  • Identify training requirements relevant to the field of law and present such relevant training within Company.
  • Assist in developing training modules relevant to various fields of law.
  • Meet with and co-operate with Group colleagues and colleagues from related subsidiaries as and when needed.

Requirements

  • Post-Graduate qualifications in commercial law are recommended.
  • Knowledge of Intellectual Property legislation (e.g. Trademarks, Copyright, Design) will be an advantage.
