About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead our electrical engineering department and drive technical excellence across all projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and controlling the department’s activities, ensuring compliance with Iritron quality systems and safety standards, and applying best practices in electrical design engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and control the electrical engineering department and all associated activities
  • Ensure all projects adhere to Iritron quality systems and safety standards
  • Monitor and support the electrical design engineering team
  • Apply best practices in electrical design engineering
  • Ensure technical projects meet deadlines, eliminate waste, and are profitable
  • Liaise with the team to schedule services that this department must render to other departments
  • Develop team development plans ensuring that team members adhere to necessary procurement requirements
  • Report risks and gaps in projects to the Managing Executive
  • Prepare scope of work, specifications, bill of quantities, and tender documents in line with client needs and requirements
  • Compile information for manufacturing and software engineering phases of the project
  • Complete site audits of client existing infrastructures and generate reports advising clients of technical and legislative compliance
  • Complete and review detailed medium voltage and low voltage electrical designs
  • Prepare commissioning procedures, documentation, and manage commissioning activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (B. Eng) or equivalent NQF
  • Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) in Electrical Engineering qualification

About the Role

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for leading the electrical engineering department, ensuring projects comply with internal quality systems, safety standards, and best engineering practices. The successful candidate will drive team development, skills planning, and adherence to procurement requirements, while identifying, reporting, and mitigating project risks and gaps to executive management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, monitor, and support the electrical design engineering team
  • Coordinate electrical engineering services with other internal departments
  • Drive team development, skills planning, and adherence to procurement requirements
  • Identify, report, and mitigate project risks and gaps to executive management

Requirements

  • BEng or Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer registration
  • Strong exposure to industrial plant and mining-related electrical design
  • In-depth knowledge of SANS standards and relevant electrical legislation
  • Working knowledge of medium voltage and low voltage systems
  • Experience with MCC design and IEC 61439 compliance
  • Practical understanding of heat rise calculations, equipment selection, and layout design
  • Knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems
  • Exposure to international electrical and instrumentation standards
