Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities Managerial Responsibilities Manage and control the electrical engineering department and all associated activities Ensure all projects comply with internal quality systems, safety standards, and best engineering practices Lead, monitor, and support the electrical design engineering team Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and remain commercially viable Coordinate electrical engineering services with other internal departments Drive team development, skills planning, and adherence to procurement requirements Identify, report, and mitigate project risks and gaps to executive management Technical Responsibilities Review, approve, and sign off detailed electrical designs in line with applicable standards and scope of work Plan and align electrical designs with business objectives and customer service requirements Ensure designs follow industry best practice, cost efficiency, and safety regulations Drive continuous improvement of electrical designs for optimal and cost-effective implementation Mentor and coach engineers and draughtspersons to maximise technical capability and professional growth Implement design initiatives following project scoping, tendering, and contract preparation Liaise directly with clients regarding design specifications and technical requirements Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications, bills of quantities, and tender documentation Compile detailed technical data packs for manufacturing and software engineering phases Conduct site audits of existing client infrastructure and prepare compliance and advisory reports Complete and review detailed medium voltage and low voltage electrical designs Prepare commissioning procedures, documentation, and manage commissioning activities Qualifications BEng or Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering Professional Engineer registration Strong exposure to industrial plant and mining-related electrical design In-depth knowledge of SANS standards and relevant electrical legislation Working knowledge of medium voltage and low voltage systems Experience with MCC design and IEC 61439 compliance Practical understanding of heat rise calculations, equipment selection, and layout design Knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems Exposure to international electrical and instrumentation standards Familiarity with ETAP or similar electrical design and analysis software
